The Avalanche, a film by Stanislav Tomić, will open the national programme of this year’s Pula Film Festival, and has already been characterised as an ‘Almodovar comedy’.
The Avalanche is a film which was originally supposed to be a series, but turned into a film due to circumastances. During his introduction of the film crew, the producer Jozo Patljak said that the story revolves around a family of females.
The leading ‘female role’ is played by a man, Robert Ugrina, who plays alongside Ksenija Marinković.
“Only a woman could join her in the ring” - Ugrina said speaking about his role, saying it was not especially demanding for him to play a woman. The film’s impressive cast includes Stojan Matavulj, Borko Perić, Goran Grgić, Miran Kurspahić, and Sven Jakir, as well as actresses Ana Maras Hermander, Sara Stanić, and Nina Violić.
The second film got the honour to be screened at the opening of the 64th Pula Film Festival is ZB80 by Igor Šeregi, which become a hit in September last year, when it opened in cinemas.
“It is prequel of sorts to Metastases, in which the story takes place some 10 years before in Belgrade,” Šeregi said, adding that this has helped them significantly in promoting the film. ZG80 was filmed in only 17 days in Belgrade, Kragujevac, and Pančevo.
Robert Cukina, one of the screenwriters, said at the press conference that the events of his youth inspired him for this story - he used to be in the Bad Blue Boys. He also said that he is already working on the sequel to this story, set in Zagreb.
The cast of ZG80 is extensive, and Marko Cindrić and Matija Kačan came to Pula. They are both extremely pleased with their work on the film.
