The round table on audiovisual copyright was held on at 11 a.m. on Friday 21July, at the House of Croatian Defenders, in the organisation of the Croatian Film Directors’ Guild, with the aim of presenting current legislation.
Following an introduction by Danilo Šerbedžija, president of the Croatian Film Director’s Guild, presentations were held by associate professor Romana Matanovac Vučković, PhD, - Legislative framework of audiovisual copyright in the Republic of Croatia, Tajana Tomić, MA, State Intellectual Property Office - Amendments to the Copyright and Related Rights Act with emphasis on collective management of copyright, Neven Vučković - Preparations at the Croatian Film Director’s Guild for the legislative changes brought about by the Directive on collective management of copyright and related rights, and Hrvoje Hribar - EU: Digital Single Market.
Romana Matanovac Vučković emphasised that, in accordance with the agreement on audiovisual work, copyright is granted to authors and co-authors, so there is a division between the so-called authors of the contribution, who are granted a smaller part of copyright, and the co-authors, who are granted copyright to the entire work.
Tajana Tomić emphasised that the Act on Audiovisual Copyright finally came into force on 8 July 2017.
Neven Vučković emphasised that an agreement was for the first time reached in the EU on which elements need to be covered by the scope of the agreement and published publicly.
HDS-ZAMP resented their experiences in publishing data from the collective system of copyright.
Hrvoje Hribar talked about digital marketing and the position of Croatian film on the digital market, where it is practically not present at all. “We will not be going into digitalisation yet”, he concluded, saying that we need to find a way to ‘bridge’ the period to digitalisation in order to preserve our cultural heritage.
At the end, Šerbedžija emphasised that copyright needs to be defined as something that belongs to the author and to which the author is fully entitled to.
Ozana Ramljak, PhD, announced the Conference on the Protection of Croatian Film Heritage, which is scheduled for World Heritage Day, 27 October 2017.
