The first of the usual five exhibitions of the 64th Pula Film Festival side programme was opened yesterday at the Serbian Cultural Centre (SKUC). The exhibition titled Purple and Turquoise - The Art of a Painting consist of 15 oil paintings of medium size, created under the influence of old masters of Spanish, Dutch and Italian painting, with a visible inclination toward darker warm colours (purple) and sea motives (turquoise), as well as accounts of bourgeois interiors and exteriors, mythologic themes, but also symbolism and the surreal.
Milan Rašula, head of SKUC, welcomed the visitors and said this is the fourth year SKUC has the honour of launching the exhibition programme of the Festival. Rašula introduced the visiting artist as an author close to both film and fine art, but whose fundamental orientation is painting. Rašula also thanked the Festival director for cooperation with the most significant cultural event in Istria, and expressed hope that the cooperation will continue next year as well, calling the opening of the exhibition ‘the launch of the Festival’ in connection to the motives of ships in Milošević’s paintings.
Festival director Gordana Restović welcomed the visitors on behalf of Pula Film Festival and added that, as has become almost a tradition, the exhibition at SKUC in a way represents an introduction to the entire Festival programme. Restović said she has recognised a link between Milošević’s work and the vision of the Festival in one of the reviews of his work, which mentioned “a modern approach to old values”, and has invited the gathered visitors to the Festival opening ceremony at the Arena.
The author talked about art historian Erwin Panofski and the connection between love on the one side, and beauty and art (or aesthetics) on the other, as a way to approach a work of art. He said he is pleased to be exhibiting in Pula, Istria, a city and region to which art and culture are linked, and which are a new setting for his exhibitions.
Autor izložbe se pozvao na povjesničara umjetnosti Erwina Panofskog i vezu između ljubavi s jedne strane, i ljepote i umjetnosti (odnosno, estetike) s druge, kao načinu pristupa umjetničkom djelu. Izrazio je zadovoljstvo zbog izlaganja u Puli, odnosno Istri, uz koje se vezuju umjetnost i kultura, a koje su njemu nova izlagačka sredina.
Predrag Peđa Milošević (1960) graduated in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade in the class of professor Rajko Nikolić. Over the last several years, he has had more than forty exhibitions in both Serbia and abroad.
