International programme to include films by Kaurismaki, Lee, Tornatore, Wajda, and other notable directors

At the 64th Pula Film Festival, which will be held from 15 July to 22 July this year, the competition programme of European and world film will offer a selection of high-quality accomplishments from world film festivals.

In the category Europolis-Meridians, at Valli Cinema, 12 films will be screened: The Teacher (Učitelka, director Jan Hrebejk, the Czech Republic, Slovakia), The Road to Mandalay (director Midi Z, Myanmar, Taiwan), Hounds of Love (director Ben Young, Australia), The Other Side of Hope (Toivon tuolla puolen, director Aki Kaurismaki, Finland, Germany), Lady Macbeth (director William Oldroyd, Great Britain), Afterimage (Powidoki, director Andrzej Wajda, Poland), 150 milligrams (La fille de brest, director Emmanuelle Bercot, France), Collector (Kollektor, director Alexey Krasovsky, Russia), A Man Called Ove (En man som heter Ove, director Hannes Holm, Sweden), Too Close to Our Son (Au plus près du soleil, director Yves Angelo, France), Hedi (Inhebbek Heidi, director Mohamed Ben Attia, Tunisia), Feud (TV series pilot, director Ryan Murphy, USA – out of competition).

In the category Euroshorts, the international competition programme of short feature films, 19 films will be screened.

A special selection of European and independent films will be screened at the Kaštel from 5 August to 11 August. These are world genre films suitable for a broader audience and a more relaxed atmosphere of summer nights under the stars. These will be screened during the Festival at Valli Cinema, as pre-premiere evening screenings.

Rodriguez, Spain), The Correspondence (La corrispondenza, director Giuseppe Tornatore, Italy), King of Belgians, directors Peter Brosens, Jessica Woodworth, Belgium), The Carer, director János Edelényi, UK), The Odyssey (L´Odyssée, director Jérôme Salle, France), The Dancer (La danseuse, director Stéphanie Di Giusto, France, Belgium), Bye Bye Germany (Es war einmal in Deutschland, director Sam Garbarski, Germany), Free Fire, director Ben Wheatley, UK, France), Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, director Ange Lee, UK, USA, China), Ice Mother (Bába z ledu, director Bohdan Slama, the Czech Republic).

This year’s friend country is the Czech Republic, and the selection of films will be from  various existing festival programmes.

In the Kaštel, Europolis-Meridians and Pulica+ programmes, three feature films will be screened: Ice Mother (Bába z ledu, director Bohdan Slama, the Czech Republic), The Teacher (Učitelka, director Jan Hrebejk, the Czech Republic, Slovakia), Angel of the Lord 2 (Andel Páne 2, director Jirí Strach, the Czech Republic). The short production brings two films from the Euroshorts Programme: The End (Poločas, director Jiri Volek, the Czech Republic) and Who’s Who in Mycology (Kdo je kdo v mykologii, director Marie Dvořáková, the Czech Republic), as well as two films from the Student International Programme: The Collision (Nehoda, director Šimon Štefanides, Češka) and Black Cake (Černý, director Johana Švarcová, the Czech Republic).

Members of the jury for the International Programme at the 54th Pula Film Festival are Jelka Stergel, Jasna Ornela Bery and Igor Saračević.
