Actor Božidar Smiljanić is the winner of the Fabijan Šovagović Award, presented to him at the 64th Pula Film Festival by Danilo Šerbedžija, president of the Croatian Film Directors’ Guild.
The Fabijan Šovagović Award is presented to actor or actress whose work has left a deep mark in the history of Croatian film. The Award was established by the Croatian Film Directors’ Guild in the honour of the great Croatian actor Fabijan Šovagović.
Božidar Smiljanić (Zagreb, 1936) started working in film as an adolescent, and has been torn between the stage, the TV screen, and the big screen all his life. Recognised primarily by his imposing voice, clear diction and flawless accentuation, Smiljanić has had noted roles in films from various periods. He started his career with a minor role in the film Sky Blue Seagull, directed by Branko Bauer.
We had the opportunity to see Božidar Smiljanić at the Arena yesterday, in the film The Constitution, directed by Rajko Grlić.
