ZLATKO KOPLJAR: EMPTY
Museum of Contemporary Art of Istria, July 21, 2017 at 20:30h
Zlatko Kopljar has been a part of the art scene since the early 1990s. He attracted interest from critics with his focus on social trauma, the insistence on the complex and problem approach to the contemporary, and the ethics of artistic act. He gives his works a name in the form of the acronym ‘K’ and the ordinal number of the project, mimicking and criticising the aggressiveness of the marketing process. The letter K originates from the word ‘construction’ (Croatian: konstrukcija), and implies the unity of the mental and physical process in the creation of an artwork, whereof he writes: “I chose the word ‘construction’ because the main reasons for my artistic work have always been of a building nature, meaning the building of the relationship within the work, and - what’s more important – the relationship of the work and the viewer. The idea is for this interaction of the work and the viewer to create a constructive space in which one seeks answers to questions or one marks the problem space.” This exhibition encompasses his work created in the period from 2012 to 2017. Zlatko Kopljar (1962) graduated in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. He has participated in numerous exhibitions in Croatia and abroad.
