Panta rei is a documentary account of an era through the eyes of actor and director Ljubiša Samardžić. Starting with a modest childhood in postwar Yugoslavia, his journey to Belgrade, studying at the Film Academy to a rich acting career, Samardžić paints a picture of domestic cinema from the 1950s to today. The golden age of Yugoslavia was marked by some of the region’s most fruitful artists, from Puriša Đorđević, Branko Bauer, Saša Petrović, Žika Mitrovć, Hajrudin Krvavac, Krsto Papić, Boštjan Hladnik, and Ivan Hetrich to Samarddžić’s co-workers Milena Dravić, Bata Živojinović, Boris Dvornik, Pavle Vuisić and many others he actively worked with.
Ljubiša Samardžić (1936) has a very rich acting, directing and producing career. He is one of the most popular actors of ex Yugoslavia after World War II, whose name appeared in more than 150 opening credits. He won the Golden Lion (Copa Volpi) in Venice in 1967, six Golden Arenas in Pula, and a large number of Grand Prix awards for film producing and directing.
